Access statement for Keston House.

Introduction.

Keston House is a Guest House situated on the coast of Selsey 100m from the sea. Although we would do everything possible to help guests that require it, due to the size of the property and the fact that all bedrooms are located on the first floor, this could mean Keston House is unsuitable for some guests.

Guests can contact Keston House by letter, phone, email or text message. We are happy to help guests make online reservation deposits by talking them through the process over the phone.

Travelling around Selsey. 

Selsey is mainly a flat area with very few inclines, making it ideal for people that find hills a challenge. Selsey is 8 miles south of Chichester. Chichester can be reached by train or National Express coach service. Once at Chichester guests can get to Selsey by the number 51 bus or Taxi. There is no train service to Selsey.

Keston House is a 15-20 minute walk from Selsey village. By car it takes less than 5 minutes. The number 51 bus will also take guests to the village if they catch it by the Lifeboat station, which is a 5 minute walk from Keston House. This bus runs approximately every 15-20 minutes most of the day.

The Selsey community bus also runs on a scheduled route through the village details can be found by calling 01243 605353. There is a small charge for this service.

There are several local taxis and we would be happy to arrange one for you, alternatively the numbers are in the guest room folder.

A Shop Mobility scheme runs in Chichester on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 3pm. There is a charge for the shop mobility service and it can be arranged by calling 02392455444 or 07932802778.  

Toilets in Selsey.

There are five lots of Radar toilets in Selsey. There are two on the kingsway one by the Lifeboat station and one by East Beach pond. Further toilets can be found in Hill Field Road by the sea front car park. There is a toilet in East Street opposite the car park and a further one in the car park at Budgens supermarket.

Car parks in Selsey.

There are several car parks that are free at the moment. There are car parks at the sea front at the end of Hill Field Road, East Street, Budgens and East beach pond. 

Arrival & car parking facilities.

At Keston House there is parking for two cars, one on the driveway and one on the road outside the house. All surfaces are flat and have Tarmac. There is a dropped kerb into the driveway. All parking is just a few feet away. Assistance can be given with your luggage.

Main entrance and reception area.

There are two steps up into the main entrance hall from outside, these are 150mm high each. The main door is a side hung door which is 830mm wide. The entrance hall is narrow, at the narrowest point is 770mm. This leads to the Guests dinning and sitting area, this doorway is 630mm wide. At the end of the hall are the stairs to the Guest bedrooms and bathrooms. The hallway from the front door to the bottom of the stairs is 3250mm long. Guests are welcome to rest and have a tea or coffee in the dinning room, before going to their room. All ground floor areas are flat and even.

There are 13 stairs to the first floor. Each stair is 200mm high. The stairs are 900mm wide.

Lighting in the public areas is on when needed and night lights illuminate the landing, hall and stairs from 11.30pm until 8.30am or whenever needed.

Public areas - hall stairs and landing. 

The flooring on the ground floor mainly consists of laminate wood. In the entrance hall there is a carpet runner which is anti slip. There is carpet on the stairs and landing. The house has two levels, ground and first floor. There is a handrail on the stairs to the right hand side, when ascending.

Public areas - sitting and dining room.

In the guest sitting and dining room there is strong oak furniture, which is very robust. Guests would be able to lean on and support themselves on this if needed. The floor is the same flat laminate wood as other areas.

Lighting in the dining room is a 5 light ceiling fitting and a table lamp. 

Public WCs.

There is an additional W.C. on the ground floor for guests to use. However it is small and space is very restricted. The floor is the same wood laminate and there is a coat hook for hanging up your coat. The toilet is 400mm high and there is a wash basin with a lever mixer tap. The door opens inwards and is right hung. This toilet is situated near the entrance door.

Bedrooms and sleeping areas.

There are no bedrooms suitable for wheelchair users. Both bedrooms have double beds and have carpet on the floor. The bedrooms are not large and therefore are slightly restricted. The door widths are both 700mm wide. Each room has a TV Also a cordless kettle with a water level indicator on the side. Each room has a ceiling light and two bedside lamps.

Bathroom and Shower room.

Bedroom 1 has an en-suite bathroom. This is a shower room that has a floor space of  1250mm x 900mm. There is a step up into the shower cubicle of 230mm. The shower is a thermostatically controlled mixer. There is an anti slip mat available. The flooring is carpet. The toilet is 400mm high and there is a basin with under cupboard storage.

Bedroom 2 has a separate private bathroom and is not en-suite. There is a bath with a shower over. The shower is thermostatic mixer. There are hand rails on the sides of the bath. The bath is 500mm high. The toilet is 400mm high. There is a basin with under cupboard storage. The flooring is carpet. There is an anti slip mat available.

Additional Information.

In the event of a Fire the Fire alarm system will sound. If safe to do so guests needing help will be escorted out of the house, to the assembly point.

Fire instructions are displayed clearly in the bedrooms and guests are advised to read them on check in. Fire instructions will be explained to the visually impaired.

Guide dogs are accepted.

Wireless internet is available to guests free of charge.

Medications are able to be stored in the main kitchen fridge and will be issued on request.
